Peanut Chutney

Peanut chutney is very tasty and easy to make. It goes well with any food. Mostly it is used with idli, dosa etc. But I sometimes even use it with my normal food. It adds an extra flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • A generous pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • few curry leaves
  • 2 green chili
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 2 small slits of ginger
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 whole red chili
  • 1 piece of tamarind
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • Heat a pan and add 1 tsp oil in it.
  • After oil is heated add asafoetida (hing), cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, curry leaves and green chili.
  • Saute for 1-2 mins.
  • Now add peanuts. Cook peanuts until they start cracking.
  • Turn of flame and let the mix cool.
  • After the mix is cold add everything in a grinder jar.
  • Add salt and tamarind.
  • Add 1/4 cup water.
  • Grind to make a smooth paste.
  • Take out chutney in a bowl or glass jar.
  • Lets make tadka now. Take the same pan an heat 1/2 tsp oil.
  • Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and whole red chili.
  • Let the seeds crackle. Turn of flame and pour tadka over chutney.
  • Enjoy the chutney.

Notes: You can also store it in glass jar for 3-4 days and refrigerate. Do not add tadka to everything if you want to store chutney.
